Conservatives vs Liberals

When George Bush became the president of the united states, I told my conservative friend that there will be no action taken on Rove v Wade, Flag burning, or any other conservative issue. Hopefully he has understood now that the division is is not between conservatives and liberals but between the haves and the have nots. Drilling off shore or protecting the environment, global warming or protecting the united states from terrorists, the solution for better living lies in the masses knowing their power. Yes, power. We have compromised a lot for the common good. But what is the common good? We are so confused about what is good for us. The concept of personal freedom is used against us. We have given up a lot of our freedom in the hope of thinking we may retain it. Obama or McCain will not solve this because the division is not between democrats and republicans. It is between haves and have-nots. Hopefully we will realize this. No, I am not calling for a communal revolution, but the realization of our strengths. I find a lot in common with a fellow conservative or a liberal than a republican or a democratic politician. But single voice is not enough. We always look for a leader for our cause. We don't need one. Revolutions need a cause. Not leaders.

My first Blog. Flag burning...

Ok. I am so clear about this topic that I thought I'd pick this as my first blog.

Flag Burning:

I checked on the proper way to dispose a flag. I found this answer. "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning". So here's my question. What is the big deal?? The official way to dispose a flag is by burning it so all we need to interpret is that who ever is burning a US flag is officially disposing it. I know, the flag of the United States represents the spirit of this country, I believe it is still "flying" on the moon and the memory of the U.S. soldiers raising the flag on Iwo Jima brings back fond memories.

I do not wish to get into a discussion on what flag burning means because it is pointless. I do not want the politicians to use it as a wedge issue. I believe the U.S.A. and its spirit is much larger than the flag. The politicians (on both sides) have deftly used this issue to create a rift between ordinary people. How come when some moron in the middle east burns a copy of the US flag causes disrespect to the United States? Well, here is a solution, let us pass a bill saying that all official US flags will be made from fire retardant material and any replica of US flag that burn is not officially recognized by the US, therefore will not bother us. This is so ironical because China is the largest supplier of US flags. Who knows how much they disrespect before they pack it and ship to the US??

This country does not need issues like this to keep the common man from being divided from each other. liberals, conservatives..... If you wish to brand me, I am a liberal conservative. I am liberal on social view but a conservative on security and fiscal responsibility. Now, I know a skillful debater can make me choose by asking me, what is more important, protecting the environment or national security? My response will be on m future blogs.

Thanks for reading.
